Discord
Connecting Discord lets big see activity in your community server, so it can later show which clients are active and which have gone quiet. You connect it with a bot token from a Discord application you create.
Use a bot made just for big
big connects as a bot, never as a person. A personal account token is refused, because Discord's terms don't allow automating a user account.
Give the bot as little as Discord lets you. Invite it with only View Channels and Read Message History. It does not need the Message Content intent, and it never posts.
Create the bot
- Sign in to the Discord Developer Portal and create a New Application, for example "big".
- Open Bot in the application and add a bot if it doesn't have one.
- Open OAuth2 → URL Generator, tick bot, then tick only View Channels and Read Message History. Open the generated link and invite the bot to your server.
- Back on the Bot page, choose Reset Token and copy it. Keep it somewhere safe only until you've pasted it into big
Paste the bot token, not the application's client secret. A bot token has three parts separated by dots.
Connect it in big
Open Connect → Integrations → Browse catalog, choose Discord, paste the bot token and the Server ID, and save. The Server ID tells big which server's activity counts: in Discord turn on Developer Mode (User Settings → Advanced), right-click your server's icon and choose Copy Server ID. big tests it with one read-only call that returns the bot's own name, and shows that bot once it is connected. The full walkthrough, including rotating and disconnecting, is Connect an integration.
What big reads
Once a day big counts, for each client you've linked to their Discord member, the messages they sent and the reactions they left in the server's text channels. Only who and when is stored, never what anyone wrote. Those counts drive each client's green, yellow or red engagement status. A client is linked to their Discord member once, by a coach; nobody is matched automatically.
Link a client to their Discord member
- In Discord, turn on Developer Mode (User Settings → Advanced), right-click the member and choose Copy User ID.
- In big, open the client in Clients and paste the ID into the Discord card, then choose Link member.
You need to be an editor or admin, and Discord must be connected first. A member can be linked to only one client; big tells you if that member is already linked to someone else.
When you rotate or disconnect
big can't revoke a Discord token. After rotating or disconnecting in big, reset the token on the Bot page in the Developer Portal, or remove the bot from your server.
